This past weekend my son, Axl, and I skied on Saturday evening at the King (Snow King Mountain). It was our first night runs together, at least of the skiing kind. We alternated skiing with swinging on the swing set at the base. I narrowly missed stepping in a dog dukie left by a woman [...]

A Few Of My Favorite Things
October 16th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Jackson Hole
I love this time of year for several reasons…the quality of light, the colder temperatures – which transform water in wonderful ways, the stillness during a snowstorm, the animals descending from the high country – gracing the valley and the hotter hot springs.

First Tracks In Four Shadows
March 18th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Jackson Hole, Snowboarding
I was invited to take an early tram with the Ski Patrol by my long time friend and early climbing and mountaineering mentor Kevin Pusey. The plan was to go with him on his snow reduction route, but since there was about 1″ of snow it was not necessary. Instead KP asked me where I [...]

Another amazing day of snowboarding and instructing at Jackson Hole
January 2nd, 2009 · No Comments · Instruction, Jackson Hole, Snowboarding
My client called me 10 minuted before we were to meet for an early tram asking, “what do you think about the snow conditions? The Hobacks are going to suck.” I told him that I believe the “Hobacks will be at least as good as yesterday.” And yesterday they were great with creamy powder. My [...]

Ripping Powder at Jackson Hole – Great way to celebrate the beginning of 2009!
January 1st, 2009 · 2 Comments · Instruction, Jackson Hole, Snowboarding
This morning I was up on the early Gondola with several clients. Our original plan was to get an early tram, which when hiring a private instructor, you can pay a bit more and get early tram or gondola if tram is not opening. It is a great way to get a few untracked runs, [...]

Wow! The snow was the ultimate gift on December 25th for us snow lovers. It came down plentifully and added up to 26″ in 24 hours, a record! Tomorrow I will be heading up on an early Tram with some clients and can’t wait! I’ll let you know how it is.
Peace,
Stephen

Cave Dry Tool Ice Climbing Training at Mountain Athlete
December 23rd, 2008 · 1 Comment · Climbing Tutorials, Jackson Hole, Training, Uncategorized
This is a short video of me from Mountain Athlete, the gym where I train, in Jackson, WY. I was able to figure 4 many more times than just a couple weeks ago, so I know I am getting stronger from the training. My goal for all this training was to make the finals at [...]

Jackson Hole Gets Dumped On!
December 22nd, 2008 · No Comments · Jackson Hole, Snowboarding
I woke up this morning to a foot of light density snow outside of the garage door. Driving to Mountain Athlete at 5:50 a.m. was challenging with the limited plowing that had occured at that hour.
After teaching snowboarding to a father and son team from GA in the afternoon I was able to walk on [...]

Jackson Hole Rare Alpenglow

What a beautiful sunset there was this evening! I was driving to Teton Village, WY for a meeting as a want to be snowboard instructor. I stopped a couple of times to take pictures. This was one of the more memorable “Valley” sunsets I have had the pleasure of experiencing in a long time! The [...]
